A slow leak in your tire will set off the tire pressure warning light -- Don't ignore it! The sooner you get the tire checked out, the better your chances are of getting it repaired properly and not replaced.
A slow leak doesn't always mean you'll need a new tire -- If the object is in the tread, most of the time we can fix it and return the tire to normal service with its warranty intact.
At Kenwood Tire, a proper tire repair is our most under rated service, because it fixes a big problem for a small cost.
Most tires leak from a puncture, nail or screw, but bead leaks and TPMS valve stems are common too. We fix all types of tires.
Here's what we'd like you to know about slow leaks and tire repairs -
-- Avoid a plug if possible, plugging a tire is temporary and will void the tire manufacturer's warranty. Plugs do have a time and place, but always opt for the proper repair if available -- (The BETOOLL Tire Repair Kit is handy for a road trip and having a 12v VacLife Air Compressor Tire Inflator on board is nice too!) -- (As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases).
-- Tires should always be inspected from the inside for damage.
-- A straight tire patch doesn't fill the hole left by the nail or screw. Water can get in, rust the belts and separate the plies.
-- Fix-a-flat is for emergencies only! You will need a new tire!
-- Proper tire repairs are regulated by the U.S.Tire Manufacturers Association, and the Tire Industry Association.
-- Expect to pay $45-50 and it's best to make an appointment.
There's a time and place for a tire plug, but a good tire repair uses a combination repair unit that seals the tire from the inside and outside. We do this by removing the tire from the wheel, inspecting the inside, drilling with a carbide bit, buffing to a rough finish, gluing, and filling the hole with a one-piece repair unit.
When the repair unit is set, we seal the buffed surface with a repair sealer, before mounting and re-balancing the tire -- See how...
Remember. at Kenwood Tire we're here to get you back on the road with a minimum of fuss -- It's always best to make an appointment.
